Product Description

This set uses a one piece, 'self backing' grommet: when you crimp the grommet, the barrel is rounded-over to create the backing - no separate backing piece needed. This makes it easy to attach 1/4" grommets (small grommets are sometimes referred to as eyelets) to a wide variety of materials - outdoor canvas or vinyl covers, nylon or leather purses & luggage and more. Barrel length 3/16". Additional grommets available separately. Excellent quality - made in Taiwan.

"...It was hard to reach and I had a full leather over. And it did not do a great job putting the middle grommet in...." Read more

"...I begin my first eyelet and mega fail. I then take a scrap material and try a few more techniques. None work...." Read more

"These are 1/4" inner diameter. The crimp tool works well - used to add grommets to laminated cards...." Read more

"Do not buy this. Totally useless. First the eyelets are one-sided. What?..." Read more

Customers are mixed about the ease of use of the mechanical components. Some mention that it's super easy to use, while others say that it was difficult to use without directions. Some say that the grommets are too small to stay attached firmly, and it'd be simple to compress them using their hand.

"This was not easy to use and the grommets that come with the pliers are fairly cheapo but if push comes to shove, it works...." Read more

"...The pliers were easy to use and plenty strong for the job, much easier than my previous frustration with the anvil-type...." Read more

"...It was very confusing. The grommets didn’t hold well. Many came out. It was returned." Read more

"...You need a good amount of hand strength to set them, but it's easy to use. Unfortunately all of the grommets are half-sides, so they are useless...." Read more

    113 customers mention29 positive84 negative

Customers are dissatisfied with the quality of the mechanical components. They mention that the eyelets are made of a rather cheap metal, and the pliers are extremely weak. The metal was definitely not strong enough to last through one rivet, and it's not suitable for heavy duty use. The eyelets and plier are easily bent when applied pressure.

"...Reviews that say the toll doesn't work or that these are poor quality are incorrect. These grommets do not require a backing washer." Read more

"...The pliers just don't work and I can't use this for a garment as it will scratch people. Waste of money. Waste of time." Read more

"Sturdy. Properly peens a brass 1/4" grommet. Make sure the metal projection side is used to peen the grommet." Read more

"The one star reviews are pretty accurate. The pliers are bad...." Read more

Require really strong hands these grommets would not go through lawn chair folded webbing.

Require really strong hands these grommets would not go through lawn chair folded webbing.
I ordered these grommets and tool because I was rewebbing an old lawn chair that my Dad years ago rewebbed using grommets to reinforce the holes put into the new webbing. Turns out: this little tool isn't strong enough to go through the layers of webbing. You can pre-punch the holes but I didn't have that tool handy, just this one that you put the grommets on both sides and punch down into the hole you already punched. I ended up not using grommets for the job and the lawn chair looks fine and secure. See photo. One on left is old with grommet and one on right is without. Both secure. Since I opened the package and ruined two grommets I didn't try to return this tool. I will save it for something that is one layer to punch.
