Cons: -Like any wooden pencil, if you drop them on the floor, the lead inside may break into little segments, and it will be near-useless when trying to sharpen since the lead pieces will just fall right out.
-As stated above, if you go over the same line or press down firmly onto your surface with these, they will leave a noticeable mark when you try to erase them.
-They don't seem blend too nicely on top of each other, if that matters to you.
-Lastly, if you are working on a detailed piece or are rendering with the col-erase pencils and are not careful about where you are positioning your hand, your work will smudge! The lead is harder than regular colored pencils but softer than, say, an HB pencil. Your hand(s) will be colorful if you do not watch out.
Pros (that I have not already mentioned): -Convenient for note-taking, sketching, coloring, doing layouts, etc.. I love to take these around everywhere since I don't like committing to colored ink pens.
-Will not destroy regular pencil sharpeners. This information was so important to me.
-THESE ARE SO CHEAP ON AMAZON. I wish I'd bought my first set on here earlier, but I bought each color individually at my local art store for more than 1USD a piece. I'm definitely returning to Amazon to repurchase these if I run out.
I swatched them next to similar premier pencils- premier are a softer, more pigmented, and blend-able pencil, which is good for dense color, color mixing, and gradations. You can do this with the col-erase but it must be done in layers, rather than a thick layer over thick layer, as if you press to hard they will mark into the paper and create a wax layer that is hard to blend together. Premier picks up more of the paper texture, so if that’s what you’re looking for, you won’t get it as much with the col-erasers.
Don’t have Premier expectations, and remember that using different types of pencils can serve different yet essential purposes. I love both types because they allow me to create multi-dimensional artwork. I also have a few switches at the bottom of some random prismacolor Scholars and Blick Studio pencils I got as samples when I was in art school. Scholar is more pigmented and waxy than Col-Erase but firmer and less blend-able than Premier. Blick Studio is fairly comparable to Premier but with less wax fallout, unsure how they compare cost wise but I assume they are more affordable than the Premier and Blick offers student discounts if you are in art school!

I do, however, use these often, just not for their intended purpose. I discovered they are PERFECT to use in Bible or book study. I never like to write in my Bible or my books, but sometimes really want to mark things. Prior to trying these pencils, I used sticky note flags. Those are OK but far from ideal. Although I would have to say these are not 100% erasable, I went ahead and started marking my Bible and books with them, knowing if I ever want to remove my underlining that it would be easy to (mostly) erase it. I have to say that these pencils have really improved my study time a lot. I'm so glad I gave it a shot, and I would totally recommend these to anyone like me who doesn't like to write with permanent ink in their Bible/books but wants to make marks that can be removed. 5 stars for allowing me to improve my study so much!
